About The Brand

CeraVe is a widely recognized skincare brand that has made a name for itself by developing products that are developed with dermatologists to target skin concerns. Their offerings, which range from cleansers to moisturizers, are often recommended for individuals with sensitive or compromised skin barriers. Their commitment to fragrance-free, non-comedogenic formulas aims to provide solutions that suit a broad spectrum of skin types.

While the brand has earned credibility in the skincare industry, some users have raised concerns about the quality-to-price ratio of certain products, especially when compared to more affordable alternatives that offer similar results.

Additionally, while CeraVe focuses on dermatologically tested formulas, there have been occasional complaints about the lack of highly specialized ingredients in some of their products. Despite this, CeraVe’s reputation remains strong, especially in the realm of basic skincare.

How Does CeraVe Moisturizing Cream Work?

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream contains ingredients that work together to ensure 24-hour hydration. The cream helps to nourish dry skin that, at times, is painful, itchy, and uncomfortable. It works effectively for individuals with all skin types, even those with sensitive skin.

The cream is formulated to be non-comedogenic and fragrance-free. Due to these features, the cream poses no side effects or allergies. Ceramides and hyaluronic acid protect the skin’s natural barrier, retain moisture and ensure you have smooth glowing skin.

The manufacturer claims that the cream is lightweight so that it is easily absorbed by the skin. However, some users find the cream to be very thick and unpleasant. Dermatologists recommend CeraVe Moisturizing Cream for skin prone to eczema.

The cream is patented with MVE Technology, which ensures the cream is fast and effectively absorbed. The technology makes the cream’s ingredients to be continually and slowly released to the skin. The cream glides smoothly and easily blends into the skin. [1]

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream Ingredients – Are they Safe & Effective?

Ceramides

– Ceramides are lipids found in the epidermis. They play a major role in retaining skin moisture and protecting the skin barrier from toxins and external pollution.

Due to the natural process of aging, ceramides tend to decline in the body. It leads to the skin becoming drier and more sensitive. One particular case study shows that using moisturizers containing ceramides improved skin quality. [2]

HA is, without a doubt, one of the most popular skincare ingredients. It is mostly used because of its ability to retain skin moisture. Studies show that HA easily bonds with water molecules. [3].

It enables the skin to hold moisture resulting in hydrated and plump skin. It also smoothens the skin texture and enhances its elasticity. [4]

Cetearyl Alcohol is not used for its actual benefits rather, it is more useful to the composition of the product. It acts as an emulsifier and stabilizer of the product ingredients. [5].

It prevents the product formula from separating when used hence evenly applied. Cetearyl alcohol is also used as a thickening agent, commonly found in skincare products such as Beverly Hills MD Total Recovery Night Eye Cream. It contains emollient properties that help to soften the skin.

Dimethicone

– Dimethicone is a silicone that is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for its safety in skincare products. It prevents the loss of skin moisture by forming a protective barrier. [6]

Dimethicone acts as an emulsifier when used in products. It also alters the texture of formulas so that they feel silky. It is non-comedogenic, colorless, hypoallergic, and odorless.

Xanthan Gum

– Xanthan Gum enhances the skin’s ability to absorb water. It also helps neutralize a product’s acidity or alkalinity, preventing skin allergies. The ingredient is used in skincare products to improve the texture and binding with other product ingredients.

Hyaluronic Acid

– This ingredient is widely recognized for its ability to attract moisture and keep skin hydrated. Hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, making it an effective ingredient for skin hydration.

Research in WILEY (2022) shows that hyaluronic acid can significantly improve skin moisture levels and promote a smooth, plump appearance. [7]

Petrolatum

– Petrolatum, or petroleum jelly, is a common ingredient used in moisturizers due to its ability to form a protective barrier on the skin. It prevents water loss by creating an occlusive layer, making it useful for treating dry, cracked skin.

According to a study published in The Journal of Clinical Medicine, petrolatum is highly effective at reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL). [8]

How To Use CeraVe Moisturizing Cream?

To use CeraVe Moisturizing Cream, apply a generous amount to the face and body as needed, preferably after a shower or cleansing. It is recommended to use it both morning and night for optimal results.

For best absorption, apply while skin is still damp, allowing the product to lock in moisture effectively. While the cream is safe for everyday use, some individuals with very oily skin may prefer to apply it only once per day to avoid excessive moisture buildup.

Benefits Of CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream claims to offer several benefits. Here are some of the key benefits:

  • Hydration: Promotes moisture retention for soft, smooth skin.
  • Barrier Restoration: Helps repair and maintain the skin’s protective barrier, reducing irritation.

Side Effects Of CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

Most users do not experience significant side effects when using CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. However, a small number of individuals may experience mild irritation, redness, or a feeling of heaviness, particularly those with highly sensitive skin or allergies to certain ingredients.

Some individuals also mention a slightly heavy feeling on the skin, which might not be ideal for those with oily or combination skin. Although these side effects are infrequent, they can still be a concern for certain users. If irritation occurs, it’s advisable to discontinue use and consult a dermatologist, as the formula might not be compatible with every skin type.

Safety Of CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is often deemed safe for daily use, as it is dermatologically tested, fragrance-free, and non-comedogenic. These features make it a go-to for many with sensitive or acne-prone skin. However, like any skincare product, it’s important to note that individuals with allergies to specific ingredients may still experience reactions.

The cream is also endorsed by the National Eczema Association, which speaks to its suitability for eczema sufferers. Despite these approvals, it’s crucial to perform a patch test to ensure compatibility, as reactions can vary depending on skin sensitivities.

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream Price

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is priced at $14.99 for a 16oz jar, which is relatively affordable compared to other moisturizers. While the price may seem reasonable, some users experience inconsistent results, with only minimal improvements in skin hydration.

For those looking to purchase in bulk, it may be worth checking other platforms like Amazon or local drugstores, where discounts or promotions occasionally apply.

However, given the varying effectiveness, the product might not feel as cost-effective for everyone, especially if alternative moisturizers offer better or faster results. Exploring other options may be a better approach for some users.

What Do CeraVe Moisturizing Cream Reviews Say?

Great Moisturizer

I was recommended to try CeraVe Moisturizing Cream because of my dry and sensitive skin. I love how the cream is easily absorbed into the skin and leaves my skin no greasy. Once applied the cream, it just “disappears” into my dry skin. So far, my face feels nourished and hydrated. The product has improved the appearance of my skin. I look forward to using less of the product as my skin becomes more hydrated. –Abbey

Falsely advertised

The manufacturer claims the product is lightweight, but the cream is very thick. The product description does not tell whether it is to be used for the face or body. It is not ideal for the face since the manufacturer recommends keeping the product from the eyes. I tried applying the cream to my face and found it sticky. I wouldn’t say I liked the product because of its misleading advertising. – Rebecca

Works effectively

I have struggled with psoriasis for years. I have tried body oil, glycerin, and skin bars for sensitive skin but nothing seemed to work until I tried CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. The rash on my skin is gradually fading away. I have not experienced any irritation after using the product. The cream is a skin saver. – Stacie

Poorly packaged

I ordered one jar for the container, and the lid was loose. I requested if I could return the product, but I was informed that there was such a policy. The most disappointing part of the cream is that it caused redness and itchiness on my neck. I doubt if I was given the original cream. – Robb

Absorbs quickly

The cream is very moisturizing and readily absorbed. It leaves my skin feeling hydrated for hours. It is the best moisturizer I have tried. The product is literally fragrance-free and non-greasy, just as advertised. The cream has saved me from the horrid dry flakes that appear on my skin. Although being one of the best, it is a bit pricey. – Kelly

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream Reviews – Final Verdict

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is undoubtedly a solid choice for those seeking affordable, long-lasting hydration. Its gentle, fragrance-free formula is ideal for normal to dry skin, and it helps restore the skin barrier with ingredients like ceramides and hyaluronic acid.

However, some users may find the texture a bit too thick for hot weather or oily skin types, which could lead them to seek alternatives for lighter moisturizers.

The manufacturer does not offer customers a money-back policy since the official website does not directly sell the product. Due to this, customers are challenged by varying prices and services offered by other retail websites.

  1. Tatum Reilly

Hydrates a little, but pricey and greasy
I used CeraVe for 7 weeks on my sensitive face and body. It did restore my skin barrier, reducing dryness and itchiness, and its fragrance-free formula is a plus. While MVE technology promises all-day hydration, I found it only lasted a few hours, leaving my combo skin shiny. At $14.99 per jar, I expected more lasting hydration. It’s okay, but better alternatives exist for less.
  2. Nancy

    what a great value!
like using this moisturizer! I usually use their face wash, but this is my first time doing so. I was astounded by this tub’s size! Even if I use it twice a day, it will still last me at least 6 months! It is silky and moisturizing with no aroma. For as long as I have dry skin, this will be my go-to moisturizer! Little was quite effective! 5 stars
