Overview of Sightcare

It’s natural to be concerned about your eyesight as you get older. The prevalence of computer-centric jobs is only on the rise and we spend more time than ever looking at our phone and television screens.

So it’s no wonder that age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is becoming an increasingly common problem.

The University of Chicago released a report on AMD and had this to say about it: Approximately one in 10 Americans ages 50 and older have the early form of AMD and approximately 1 out of every 100 Americans age 50 and older have the vision-threatening late form.[1]

To help with this growing problem are supplements like Sightcare. But can it really keep you from developing eye-related problems? We researched the formula of Sightcare, analyzed customer reviews of sight care, and answered common questions about sight care supplement to help you find out.

    What is Sightcare?

Sightcare is an over-the-counter supplement that comes in capsule form. The formula is claimed to provide your body with the necessary nutrients to support long and short-term eye health. Who is the Manufacturer of Sightcare?

The makers of Sightcare are a company called Max-Bio. We know that Max-Bio is a company based in Lewes, Delaware, and that they make all their supplements in the United States.

However, the company does not have an official site. They appear to sell all of their products exclusively through 3rd party retail sites instead.

How Does Sightcare Work?

Some of the ingredients in the Sightcare formula help the eyes filter out blue light. While blue light may be beneficial for our eyes during the day, at night it could hinder our natural sleep cycles.

Blue wavelength light comes prominently from our cell phones and computer screens so Sightcare is supposed to work by helping to filter out blue wavelength light so that we can sleep normally[2].

Another way this supplement is said to work is by supplying the eyes with the vitamins that they need. One of these vitamins is called retinol and it helps maintain proper eye lubrication.

Sightcare Ingredients – Are They Safe & Effective?

Here are the most important Sightcare ingredients:

Huperzine-A

Huperzine-A

Huperzine A is a nutrient that helps relieve ocular tension. The effects are localized primarily in the iris muscle. In studies on the effects of Huperzine A, it was found that it helps lower intraocular pressure[3].

This means that Huperzine A supplementation could help your eyes work less when reading, working, or studying. As discussed in our EyeFortin Review, featuring the same ingredient, Huperzine A is linked to cognitive advantages, especially in improving memory and alertness.

Lutein

Lutein

Lutein is a type of carotenoid that has anti-inflammatory properties, as we described in our article of VisiSoothe Reviews.

According to the National Institutes of Health: A large body of evidence shows that lutein has several beneficial effects, especially on eye health. In particular, lutein is known to improve or even prevent age-related macular disease which is the leading cause of blindness and vision impairment.[4]

However, the NIH also acknowledges that some conflicting scientific study data did not come up with the same positive results for lutein supplementation.

Vitamin B

Vitamin B

This supplement contains a vitamin B complex that consists of vitamin B2 (as riboflavin), Vitamin B6 (as pyridoxine), and vitamin B9 (as folate). Vitamin B has been known to help prevent age-related eye disorders.

Most notably, vitamin B seems to play an important role in reducing the risk of developing cataracts.

Zeaxanthin

Zeaxanthin

Zeaxanthin is also effective for reducing the risk of developing cataracts and age-related eye disorders. It seems to be most effective towards this end when combined with B vitamins[5].

These include the same B vitamins that have been included in the formula for this supplement. Our findings in iGenics review Furthermore bilberry extract is believed to strengthen the blood vessels in the eyes, potentially reducing the risk of retinal disorders such as diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. Its anti-inflammatory properties also contribute to overall eye health by alleviating discomfort associated with conditions like dry eyes or inflammation of the conjunctiva.

Zinc

Zinc

Zinc is an essential mineral that plays a role in many bodily functions. According to the National Institutes of Health:

Results from this randomized clinical trial suggested that pharmacological doses of zinc might provide some protection against vision loss from this non-neovascular form of the disease.[6]

From this study, we can see that zinc may protect your eyesight as you get older and preserve normal ocular function.

Hibiscus

Hibiscus

Hibiscus is a flower and its extracts have broad-reaching health benefits. One study seems to suggest that hibiscus flower extract can benefit the eyes by limiting inflammation[7].

Hibiscus flower extract is naturally rich in polyphenols which also have antioxidative properties.

No Doubt About It, A Must-Try for Eye Health!
My eyes have been feeling so much better now. Seriously, I used to squint all the time, especially in bright light, but now it’s like my eyes are on vacation, they feel refreshed and relaxed.
  2. Madison

    Feeling comfortable
As I’ve gotten older, my eyes have become more sensitive to light and I have experienced more eye fatigue. Since starting on Sightcare, I have noticed a decrease in these symptoms and my eyes feel much more comfortable even after long hours of work.
  3. Ivy

    Grateful for this supplement!
Being someone who spends a lot of time on electronic devices, I was worried about the impact it was having on my eyes. After incorporating Sightcare into my daily routine, I have noticed less dryness and irritation in my eyes.
  4. Sharon

I want to explore other options.
I’ve never tried the product and don’t plan to right now due to the cost. I just want to mention that the lengthy advertisement by Dr. David Lewis discusses 10 of their top ingredients, some of which are mentioned in this article and some are different or not included. This makes me unsure of what is actually in this supplement.
