Overview

When it comes to your general health, you can’t be too precautious. While there are a lot of different aspects to bodily health, you should do your best to address all of them if you want to live a long and healthy life. But this is much easier said than done. How can one truly address every aspect of their physical health?

That question is still a matter of much debate but the makers of Grass Fed Liver seem to think they have a solution. Grass Fed Liver is a dietary supplement that is claimed to benefit digestive health, help flush out toxins from the body, improve immune function, metabolism and more.

The ingredients used in Grass Fed Liver were derived from cattle that have been fed a diet of mainly grass to enhance their health and the nutrient density of their liver extracts. So Grass Fed Liver may also benefit your general liver function. But does it really work? Find out in the following Grass Fed Liver review.

What Is Grass-Fed Liver?

Grass Fed Liver is a natural dietary supplement that is said to offer a wide variety of different kinds of nutrients, all from natural sources. For instance, Grass Fed Liver contains bovine liver extracts harvested from cattle that have been fed mostly grass for their entire lives.

This is said to enhance the nutrient density of the extracts and deliver maximum health benefits to the user. Grass Fed Liver is not exactly the most popular supplement on the market and the company that makes it is relatively small. Still, the product is starting to gain some popularity which is why we wanted to cover it in today’s review.

It should be noted that Grass Fed Liver comes in capsule form and is claimed not to contain any banned substances or potentially harmful ingredients. While Grass Fed Liver is mostly meant to improve liver health, users have also taken it to support digestive and immune health as well.

Liver Support

How Does Grass-Fed Liver Work?

To understand how Grass Fed Liver might work, it can be helpful to understand the importance of iron. Iron helps proliferate hemoglobin which helps the body convert nutrients from the foods you eat into usable energy. In fact, if your hemoglobins are low, you may become anemic which can sap you of your physical energy.

There are two types of iron that you can absorb through your food: heme iron and non-heme iron. Heme iron is much more absorbable and more effective at increasing hemoglobin levels. So the way that Grass Fed Liver is supposed to work is by increasing your Heme iron levels.

The way this supplement attempts to accomplish this is by incorporating bovine liver extract into the formula. Bovine liver extract is a rich source of heme iron so it may increase hemoglobin levels and make you feel more energetic. Other claims are that Grass Fed Liver will work to support immune and digestive health – though these claims seem much more dubious.

Grass-Fed Liver Ingredients – Are they Safe & Effective?

Let’s take a look at what’s in Grass Fed Liver:

Ovine Liver Extract

Ovine liver extract comes from sheep. In the case of Grass Fed Liver, the sheep used to harvest this ingredient were claimed to be grass-fed. According to some clinical studies, ingesting ovine liver extract may slow cytokine aging and improve cardiovascular function.

Organic Reishi Mushroom Extract

Reishi mushrooms may be one of the ingredients in the formula for this product that supports the claims of improved immune function. Some clinical studies have suggested that reishi mushroom supplementation may lower cholesterol, increase physical stamina, and boost the immune system.

Organic Beet Root

Organic beet root is said to be beneficial for cardiovascular function because of its high concentration of nitrates. Nitrates may help boost nitric oxide levels in the blood and allow the blood cells to carry more oxygen. However, more studies need to be conducted to determine the exact effects that beet root has on cardiovascular function.

Organic Spirulina

Spirulina is an algae that has been deemed a superfood because of its varied nutrient profile. It contains gamma-linoleic acid which may benefit immune system function. The National Institutes of Health has stated in one of their studies that:

An animal study showed that gamma-linolenic acid can improve rats’ immunity [16], and, similarly, researchers also discovered that it regulates the immune response in cell models.

Still, this data comes from animal studies and it is unclear if the same effects will occur in human trials.

Grassfed Bovine Liver

Bovine liver extract is said to be a rich source of Heme iron which is more bioavailable than iron that comes from vegetables. This may help increase hemoglobin levels. Peace Health has also reported that:

Bovine liver extracts provide the most absorbable form of iron—heme iron—as well as other nutrients critical in building blood, including vitamin B12 and folic acid.

However, it is not considered generally safe to take bovine liver extract every day as it poses a risk of vitamin A toxicity.

Hard to swallow and made my stomach upset for 3 days and counting and I had a nose bleed (and I never get those!) Makes no sense for them to say 1 serving is 6 capsules to start –C

love the brand. I took this while pregnant because my iron was low, it did not raise my iron and the added ingredients I was skeptical to take so I switched to a pure Grass Fed Liver caplet and my iron levels went back to normal. I was disappointed it did not help my iron levels. –Sarah

I love these. They give me so much energy. I was taking Vital Proteins beef liver for awhile but they do not work as well. I’m vegetarian but I am ok adding these since they keep my b12 levels up. I sometimes break it up by taking 3 capsules in morning and 3 for an afternoon pick me up.

    Energy boost? Didn’t feel it
Tried this for five weeks because everyone says liver supps are the new powerhouse thing. Before, I was tired after work.. after, still tired.. just with burps that tasted like beef jerky. Not terrible, but definitely not the “primal energy” I was hunting for.
