Brain-Boosting Foods

There are many articles and new media that keep changing their minds in the foods we should and should not be eating. However, with a little bit of research and listening to what your body needs, I have found 5 foods that will help keep you healthy.

1. Oats
2. Blueberries
3. Spinach/lettuce
4. Carrots
5. Yogurt

Finding the right foods for your body, no matter your lifestyle is not that hard. It is all about listening to your body, eating what makes you feel good without the hassle of “keeping up with the newest fad”. I’m in the generation of 25-year-olds still believing old wives tales about good and bad foods, but also learning that not everything we were taught is correct.

There were many factors that I had to weigh in order to have a complete list. The food needed to have practicality, low cost at the market, and conveniently brought into different foods for variation. We all live stressful lives, we go through moments of strength and weakness so the food we eat needs to help us get through the days.

Let’s break it down.

1. Oats
Oats are packed with something called soluble fiber, which decreases the chance of heart disease. It is true, oats have a bunch of carbs but the sugar release is slowed by the fiber. If oats aren’t your thing, quinoa or flaxseeds are good substitutes.

2. Blueberries
Blueberries have so many great antioxidants that help against diabetes, cancer, and memory loss in older age. It tastes amazing in cereal, smoothies, jam or on their own.

3. Spinach or lettuce
Spinach or lettuce in your daily diet is one of the best ways to keep your sex drive up, heart-healthy and muscles strong. Pop Eye wasn’t lying, people. It is full of omega 3 fatty acids; the good fats. If you still can’t get over the taste of spinach: lettuce, bok choy or kale are good replacements.

4. Carrots
Do you remember a saying about rabbits eating carrots for better eyesight? Well, they might not help humans eyesight, but orange vegetables assist against many cancers, inflammatory conditions, and arthritis. There are other vegetables that have similar health benefits such as sweet potatoes, butternut squash, pumpkins, or yellow bell peppers. Just remember not to eat too many carrots because the color agent can transfer to the bloodstream and possibly cause skin discolouration. Don’t be alarmed, just slow down on the carrots.

5. Yogurt
The last smart food to add into your diet is yogurt. I’m hoping that we remember that there are good and bad bacteria everywhere, even in our bodies. Yogurt has been in various cultures for over 2,000 years and people keep eating it because most of them have probiotic organisms that boost the immune system. Be careful of product advertisement while shopping because not all yogurts are as good for you as others.

The best thing about all 5 of these foods is that they can be blended together in a smoothie, shake, salad, cereal, and cooked into all meals in different ways. There are so many recipes online or made by your imagination to keep your body healthy.

Brain Food Info

A healthy body is smart, it doesn’t have to be a specific weight or size. It is all about how you feel when you eat the foods. Maintaining a smart, healthy body that makes sense to you is just common sense. Having an optimal pulse, systolic and diastolic blood pressure is very important for your complex body to health. It sounds daunting but your local health store or pharmacy should have a machine that checks all of that for you in 1 minute. Or as easy as going to your doctor and talking to them about becoming healthy, they have many options and opinion that can be advised.

Trying to find a healthy diet for you and your loved ones can feel overwhelming and maybe even impossible. Everywhere you look there are advertisers saying what to eat and what not to eat to keep you “safe”. Finding safe foods aren’t hard, they are right under our noses in grocery stores and in our pantries.

Conclusion

All of this boils down to common sense. Oats, carrots, yogurt, blueberries, and spinach are all good foods. We know that they are all FDA approved for years. The reasons are simple: they keep us healthy. They keep our brains working properly in order to live a sustainable life. It allows our antibodies to fight against bad bacteria and viruses that are a part of life. All of those 5 foods help against the chances of cancer or asthmatic infections.

Being healthy is being smart. It doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy that piece of cheesecake or hamburger, but everything in moderation. Eat the smart foods to stay on top of your game.
