Different Types of Wrinkles

Wrinkles are a natural part of aging. For some, wrinkles begin earlier than others, but there is no getting away from it. We will all eventually wrinkle if we are on this earth long enough. Both men and women sometimes fear the aging process, particularly wrinkles. There are some things you can do to protect your skin and these things can help ward off wrinkles longer. In order to properly prevent wrinkles, it’s important to have a clear understanding of the different types of wrinkles which can occur.

There are many things that contribute to the development of wrinkles: sun exposure, smoke exposure, daily care and even genetics. Proper skin care and protection is something we should all be aware of at an early age. Fine lines and wrinkles begin to develop when we are in our late 20s. By making smart choices early on, we can help prevent wrinkles from forming too early.

Four main types of wrinkles have been recognized. Each wrinkle type develops on specific skin regions and exhibits distinct characteristics. Different types of wrinkles respond differently to different kinds of treatments.

Atrophic Crinkling Rhytids

When fine lines that run parallel to each appears on your face, they are called Atrophic Crinkling Rhytids. These lines typically disappear when the skin is stretched taut. These types of wrinkles become worse with sun exposure. The best way to avoid getting these types of wrinkles is to avoid direct sunlight as much as possible and to use sunscreen when you do plan on being in the sun. Remember that the harsh rays of the sun will worsen when spending time in or near water. Be sure to properly cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin each morning and night. You can help minimize aging around the eyes by utilizing eye creams. Always apply creams in an upward motion. When applying makeup, be sure to apply in a downward motion. Be gentle with your skin. It is delicate and deserves a delicate touch.

According to WebMD, there are several ways you can reduce* wrinkles. Of course the three biggies are avoiding sun, smoking and wearing sunscreen, but what other things can you do? For starters, you can make sure you get adequate sleep. When you don’t, your body produces excess cortisol, which is a hormone that breaks down your skin cells. Speaking of sleep, if possible, sleep on your back. Certain positions can cause sleep lines, which can turn into permanent wrinkles.

WebMD suggests many other things to help prevent wrinkles too, including eating more soy and reducing* coffee intake (or better yet, replacing coffee with cocoa). There are properties in soy that may be able to help protect and heal the sun’s photoaging damage. Some soy-based supplements can help improve* skin structure and firmness after six months of use. Cocoa contains high levels of both epicatchin and catechin, which help protect the skin from sun damage. They also improve* the circulation to the skin cells.

A no brainer is to eat more fruits and vegetables. They have antioxidant compounds that help fight skin damage caused by free radicals. By working on following a healthy diet, you will not only be helping to prevent wrinkles, but your skin will look healthy and better toned.

One of the final tips is to avoid over washing your face. Dermatologists at the University of Maryland Medical Center says that tap water can strip the skin of its natural barrier oils and the moisture that is needed to protect against wrinkles. You wash off your protection when you wash too often. Be sure to use a cleanser instead of soap or opt for a soap that contains moisturizer.
