Tragically, over one-third of Americans suffer needlessly from chronic pain. This is not because of the lack of effective treatment. Rather it is a lack of physician education in this area.
Standard medicine can be wonderful for many illnesses, but when it comes to pain management, you’re much better served by going to a chiropractor, a holistic MD, acupuncturist, or even a good bodyworker who does excellent myofascial release.
You are especially out of luck if you have pain that affects predominantly women, such as fibromyalgia and migraines.
But only if you go to your standard physician. If you go to a holistic physician, you have a far better chance of getting pain free.
Let’s talk about what pain is, and then how to make it go away.
Pain is not an outside attack on your body. Rather, it is like the “oil light” on your body’s health monitoring system, telling you that something wants attention.
Let’s use this analogy for pain. Say you found your car’s oil light to be flashing and had no idea why it was doing so.
You’d take it to your family doctor, who would put a Band-Aid over your oil light. For example, ibuprofen.
You can imagine the problems with doing this, and indeed large studies suggest that these ibuprofen-related medications cause over 30,000 – 50,000 preventable US deaths yearly when used chronically.
Meanwhile, prescribed narcotics cause 15,000 overdose deaths yearly.
Then you go to an integrative pain management specialist who explains that this pain is your body’s way of getting your attention and showing you what it needs.
Continuing on with the analogy, he “puts oil in your car and the oil light goes out.” The pain goes away.
This is the approach we will be talking about today.
Our research shows that pain is like the oil light on your body’s monitoring system trying to tell you when something needs attention.
Give your body what it needs, and the pain goes away. Instead of the side effects of medications, natural remedies have been shown in head-on studies to often be far more effective than pain medications.
But natural options usually offer “side benefits” instead of side effects.
Still, people do best when they combine the whole “healing arts toolkit” of natural and prescription options – but do so wisely.
So, let’s see how this works using fibromyalgia as a model. In other later articles, we can explore how to eliminate migraines, arthritis, CRPS, back pain, neuropathy, and a host of other types of pain.
You can also find a lot of information on these in the free phone app Cures A-Z.
Fibromyalgia Is Optional!
Do you have the paradox of horrible insomnia despite being exhausted? Widespread pain or achiness and brain fog?
If this sounds like you, you have fibromyalgia until proven otherwise. A simple way to tell? Do the free quiz (Step 2) at www.vitality101.com.
You will know in five minutes if you meet the diagnostic criteria for fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome.
If these symptoms sound like you or anybody you know, this article can lead to recovery. Please apply it in your life or share it with your friends.
What is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia represents a body-wide energy crisis, where you are spending far more energy than you’re able to make.
Overdrawing your “energy bank account” in this way can cause you to trip off a key circuit breaker in the brain called the hypothalamus.
This area controls sleep (so you can’t sleep well even though you’re exhausted), your entire hormone system, immune function, temperature regulation, and autonomic function (blood pressure, pulse, sweating, and gut function.
Being a major control center is why we see such a wide range of symptoms
It is not surprising that it is unlikely to respond to throwing a single “Magic Bullet” at the problem.
What is needed is a well-organized and tailored comprehensive approach to fix your energy equation, which counts them to turn that circuit breaker back on. Turning the pain and fatigue off!
In fact, our published randomized double-blind placebo-controlled (i.e. – “gold standard”) published study using a comprehensive protocol resulted in 91 % of people with fibromyalgia improving, with an average dramatic 90 % increase in quality of life.
I like Dr. Oz, and he is a friend and a colleague. I was discussing my treatment protocol with him and smilingly, he basically said, “Jacob, talk is cheap. Prove it!”
He sent me a young woman with fibromyalgia, a Lieutenant in our military, who found her condition dramatically improved by six weeks. She is the one who coined the moniker “SHINE Protocol.” This optimizes:
You may think it would be impossible for you to get your eight hours sleep with your difficulty falling and staying asleep.
It’s not. In the thousands of people we have treated, we can count on our fingers the number we have not been able to get sleeping solidly.
Some excellent herbs to optimize sleep include Revitalizing Sleep Formula (Enzymatic Therapy), a special Nature’s Bounty Dual Spectrum 5 Mg Melatonin (Amazon or Walgreens – often very low cost on Amazon), or Terrific ZZZZ (Terry Naturally).
The most helpful medications are Ambien, gabapentin 300 mg, trazodone 25 mg, Benadryl 25 mg, and/or Flexeril 2.5 mg at bedtime. Low doses of a number of treatments work far better than a high dose of one!
These are just a few of the over 50 sleep aids, natural and prescription, that can be used to help even people with fibromyalgia sleep like kittens. And getting solid sleep is the first step in recovery.
Most people with fibromyalgia need hormonal support – Despite normal tests. Hypotension (OI/NMH/POTS) also need to be screened for with a simple one minute quiz.
The thyroid, adrenal, reproductive, and most hormones are all controlled by the hypothalamic circuit breaker. These should be treated based predominantly on symptoms and response to treatment.
For example, if you’re tired, achy, weight gain, cold intolerant, constipated, or have unexplained infertility or miscarriages.
Any two of the symptoms warrant a therapeutic trial of desiccated Armour thyroid by prescription to see if your symptoms improve.
Adjustments should be made predominantly based on what feels best to you rather than based on blood testing.
Do you get irritable and hungry with these “feed me now or I will kill you” moments?
These have been called being “Hangry,” and suggests adrenal fatigue. Standard normal ranges for blood tests, which will only determine if the adrenal is so destroyed that it can kill you, will miss this problem.
Instead, take a supplement called Adrenaplex 1 to 2 capsules each morning to smooth this right out.
Avoid sugar (which will be much easier on the Adrenaplex) and increase salt intake considerably.
There are literally dozens of infections that have been implicated. Testing is unreliable for these, but rather we look at the pattern of symptoms.
For example, onset with the flulike illness suggests viral. Other patterns suggest antibiotic-sensitive, Lyme, Candida (irritable bowel symptoms or postnasal drip/sinusitis), and a host of other infections. Each of these should be considered and addressed as needed.
The average American loses half of their diet’s vitamins and minerals in food processing. So, most Americans who do not supplement have nowhere near the optimal nutritional support their body needs.
This is far worse in fibromyalgia, where the illness causes increased nutritional needs and worsening absorption of nutrients.
Because of this, I begin most anybody I treat who needs more energy or pain relief with a single low-cost daily drink.
This will be the best 30 seconds you’ll spend each day for optimizing and turbocharging energy.
Two of our published studies showed that the ribose itself increase energy an average of 61% after six weeks, helping two thirds of people
Exercise As Able
I would note, mild exercise to maintain conditioning can be helpful in any severe illness, including cancer.
But those who senselessly try to imply that the illness is not real, e.g. because exercise helps a tiny bit or because most people with the illness are women, should be avoided.
Why would you want to go to a doctor who is being abusive?
By way of perspective, poorly understood illnesses that affect predominantly women have routinely been considered neuroses by our male-dominated healthcare system. Despite half of the doctors now being female.
The depth of this bias seen in our healthcare system can be understood from the medical word “hysteria,” which comes from the Latin “-Hysteria,” which means uterus.
Multiple sclerosis used to be called “hysterical paralysis.” You wouldn’t go to a neurologist who still uses this label.
Nor does it make any sense to go through a physician unfamiliar with fibromyalgia, or who thinks it is all in your mind.
The bottom line? Fibromyalgia is an energy crisis where you essentially tripped a circuit breaker
Anything that causes increased energy spend or decreased energy production can play a role. There are usually dozens of factors in any individual, but they vary dramatically from person-to-person.
Addressing this with the SHINE Protocol results in an average 91% improvement, making this illness very treatable.
In fact, Fibromyalgia Is Optional! But sadly not, as you have found unless you find the right information and health practitioners
I had fibromyalgia myself in 1975. It hit me after what I call the “drop dead flu,” knocked me out of medical school, and left me homeless for much of the year.
It was during this time that I began understanding this illness and creating my own recovery. My goal since then has been to make effective treatment available for everyone. We have created a number of free tools to help this.
So how to begin:
- Go to www.vitality101.com and read and do steps 1 – 3. Then do the free Energy Analysis Program to Optimize Energy. This will identify the 5 – 10 most likely problems draining your energy, and tailor a comprehensive protocol for energy optimization using the SHINE principles
- Step four at the website has a very large body of free educational tools including articles on a wide array of topics and many videos with over 100 –200,000 views
- Read my books beginning with “the Fatigue and Fibromyalgia Solution.” This is an easy read. For those who want more depth and scientific study references, I recommend the book “From Fatigued to Fantastic!” This has been the best-selling book on chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia of all history
- I do treat people worldwide, and this can be done by phone as needed. My consultations take three hours of my one on one time and are very comprehensive. For information, email Sarah at [email protected], and she will set up a time to speak with you. The website also has a list of other health practitioners with different levels of familiarity in treating fibromyalgia
- For a 45 minute video of a lecture I gave to about 500 physicians, which gives an overview of what fibromyalgia is and how to get well, which has over 200,000 views
- Begin with the Energy Revitalization System and SHINE Ribose (one scoop three times a day). After six weeks, two-thirds of you will find your energy increases over 60%. Then other pieces of the protocol can be added in (or you can go more quickly if you prefer).
- For pain, I begin with a unique herbal mix called Curamin (1 – 3 times a day) as well as Hemp Oil
(I Recommend the one by Terry Naturally Three Caps Three Times A Day).
There are over 50 prescription and natural pain-relieving options, so it is rare that people with fibromyalgia cannot get good solid pain relief, and often completely eliminate pain, using this approach.
Give most treatments six weeks to see the full effect for those who also have CRPS, RSD, orthostatic intolerance (POTS or NMH), you can email me at [email protected] for free information sheets on recovering from these (just note which condition(s) you have).
Are you ready for your fibromyalgia to be Optional?
It is – NOW!
