What is DASH Diet?

Originally developed to treat hypertension, the DASH Diet has now become a popular weight loss method and doctor recommended plan.DASH, which stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, promises to lower blood pressure in 14 days by changing dietary habits. The meal plan is based on a low fat, low salt diet which should be accompanied by regular aerobic exercise.

The DASH website is not particularly professional looking and really seems to cater to the middle aged or older consumer. Although some of the links are not very clear, the site does contain valuable information, not just about DASH, but also for nutrition concerns, children’s health, eating out and help in the cessation of smoking and alcohol abuse.

Whilst the diet does focus mainly on fruits, vegetables and low fat foods, judging from the sample menus and recipes, there is a good variety of tasty dishes, meaning the dieter won’t be left feeling deprived in any way.
