Stretch marks or striae are red, purple, or pink streaks on the skin often appearing on the abdominal, breast, upper arm, or thigh areas.

After some time, it eventually fades into a grayish or silvery streak.

It is directly caused by sudden weight gain wherein the skin expands considerably causing parts of the dermis to break.

Some factors that lead to the development of stretch marks include genetics, medication, and certain conditions.

There are several treatments available but the use of topical formulations is by far the most popular.

In this article, we will be reviewing one of the most popular remedies for stretch marks.

What is Bio Oil?

Bio-Oil Skincare Oil is the world’s leading scar and stretches mark product that is designed to reduce the appearance of scars, stretch marks, and unevenness of the skin (color and texture).

It can also be used to moisturize the skin and treat very dry skin.

It is a very popular product that has so far won 135 skincare awards according to the official website of the product.

It also claims to be the number 1 selling scar and stretch mark product in over 17 countries since its launch in 2002.

The formulation is a blend of vitamins and plant extracts that are suspended in oil bases.

It is non-greasy and light to ensure that the formulation can easily be absorbed by the skin.

What are the Pros of Bio Oil?

  • The primary strength of Bio Oil is that it can be used to address a variety of skin problems like discolorations, scars and stretch marks.
  • It also comes in a non-greasy formulation which is a lot more convenient to use compared to other similar products.
  • There is also a lot of feedback from people who have tried it say it really works in the prevention of stretch marks.
  • On the other hand, there are also several weaknesses like the fact that Bio Oil contains a number of ingredients.
  • This increases the chance that a person is allergic to any of the product’s ingredients.
  • Another considerable weakness is that it is not clinically tested for effectiveness so there is no evidence that it really works.
  • Also, it is not very effective in reducing already visible stretch marks according to many customer feedback and reviews.

Bio Oil Review – Final Verdict

Bio Oil is a good product for stretch marks. This is because it is very affordable and many people say it really works.

However, a majority of customer feedback says it only works in preventing stretch marks and doesn’t have a significant effect in reducing stretch marks that are already visible.

You can survey the market and look for another alternative way for reducing stretch marks, such as Apothederm, Skinception, Revitol Stretch Mark Cream, and SD Intensive Concentrate.

Take note that it is not for everyone since it contains a number of ingredients, a few of which may cause side effects.

The unfortunate truth is that more than 90% of the stretch mark creams being sold today are ineffective. Some are even unsafe and can cause side effects like skin irritation. Choosing a stretch mark cream is a very difficult process that takes a lot of time for thorough research. To make it a lot easier for you, we have carefully examined the top stretch mark creams on the market and ranked them based on effectiveness, safety and affordability. Disappointment with Bio-Oil Gel
I recently purchased Bio-Oil Gel, as I love Bio-Oil. Well, the jar even though not opened was leaking through the sealant strip around the jar, so because I live in north Queensland, I thought I must have to keep it in the fridge. Guess what still oil, not gel. In the future, I will purchase the original product that I have bought often for over 30years. I will continue to use this product, however, I wanted gel, not oil.

    I LOVE Bio-Oil!
I have used Bio-Oil for 1 week 2-3 times daily on my face to help with crows feet & wrinkles & let me tell you I ALREADY see a big difference…& my skin is so soft & smooth…it also is starting to even out the small uneven skin tone area I have…I LOVE it…been using it for about a year for a scar but just decided to try it as skincare for my face….my verdict is…I do NOT regret it…Bio-Oil user for life here! It is truly a great product! Thank you Bio-Oil for creating a wonderful smelling product that actually works!
  3. tay

Bio oil is my #1 beauty product!
I used bio oil on my face for weeks to cure dry skin, uneven skin tone, and acne scars. It did exactly that. After a couple of weeks of using it 2 or more times a day, my skin was radiant. It was bright, soft, and my scars were less noticeable. I don’t think I could ever not use bio oil now.
  4. Renuka

    Makes skin dry and rough
I used bio oil hoping that it will cure uneven skin tone. But I have got an adverse effect. Using it for just two days made my face skin extremely dry and rough. Skin becomes very rough and rigid.
  5. sarita

    Not good
I have been using this oil from last 45 days on my face…but my face gets dull and more rashes, redness and spots appear now.
