I’ve tried the CPAP machine and even though the air flow setting was low, I couldn’t get used to the constant flow of air and had to rip it off in order to catch my breath and breathe. It also had water to moisten the air in my nose but that didn’t work either, my nose kept drying out every time I used it. I contacted the people that supplied the CPAP machine and they said I needed to sleep with my mouth closed and their suggestion was to send me a strap to hold my mouth closed. That went into the trash can very quickly since I breathe through my mouth when I sleep. My wife kept telling me I just didn’t try it long enough to help me.
My ENT offered other things to try before suggesting the Inspire sleep device. I’ve tried the things that go in my nose to flare my nostrils and that seeps to help with the snoring but I still wake up tired and unrested. I tried the nose tapes and even though I follow their instructions, the tape peels off almost every time I try it. I am scheduled for another sleep study and I think I may just try the mouth piece. Hopefully that will work.

I’m deeply sorry for the pain and suffering you’ve endured as a result of having this device implanted. It appears that the surgery might not be as ‘minor’ as suggested, given the lingering and persistent side effects. Moreover, it necessitates periodic replacement of the batteries (how long do these batteries typically last?). The cost of the surgery is exorbitant, exceeding $100,000, and it remains uncertain whether insurance covers removal, despite coverage for initial installation. Sleeping difficulties often persist long after the device’s installation, leaving me incredulous that the FDA and other regulatory agencies permit the sale of this product. The advertising is alarmingly misleading, reinforcing the age-old adage, ‘Buyer Beware.’ I will never fall victim to this scam. Thank goodness.

The Inspire doctors and the company itself seem biased and corrupt, at least here in Southeast Michigan. When I had sleep studies done by Inspire and their doctors, they would say I’m doing great, even though I knew I wasn’t doing well at all because that’s why I requested the sleep studies. I sought a second opinion from a Wesper sleep specialist and did home sleep studies through them. It confirmed what I’ve been saying all along—I still have moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in all sleeping positions with my Inspire device turned on and active, and my apnea is worse on my left side.
I’m incredibly frustrated and don’t know what to do. I’ve been suffering from obstructive sleep apnea for 18 years without consistent successful treatment, and it has led to forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, and overall misery. I know there are other procedures that would likely help me much better. I dislike it when doctors prescribe Inspire for everyone with sleep apnea. What most doctors fail to understand is that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Treatment should be tailored to each individual’s needs because everyone is different, and different parts of the throat can cause breathing blockages. No one, I repeat, no one should have to suffer for years without successful treatment. I’m grateful I found this unbiased site where I can share my review. As some folks have mentioned, the number of tests and appointments that were required was significant, and a few of them seemed totally unnecessary. Like ‘hi, how are you doing? Any questions? No, then see you next week.’
They don’t tell you that the device in your chest will be noticeable but I’ve had no discomfort. I can definitely feel it when I run my fingers over my chest.
Heading over to my sleep doctor today for another follow-up. I’ll post again as I progress further.

The hospital incidentally billed Medicare $186K for the surgery including $67K for the device. So so far we have a nonfunctioning, painful, expensive device not covered by Medicare which apparently can’t be removed. BTW she continues to use her CPAP without problems.

I did my research, read all the positive and negative reviews and I knew I had to make a decision. By the time I did the sleep study, I knew I wanted the Inspire despite the negativity. Of course, the result of the sleep study was severe sleep apnea and the doctor wanted me to try the C-Pap again and I said no.
I was then sent to the ENT for evaluation for the Inspire and he said I was a good candidate. Took 8 weeks to get approval and another 3 for the surgery. Surgery was a piece of cake, no pain meds were needed, was back to work the following week.
After healing for 4 weeks the device was turned on and from the very first night, I could tell a huge difference. No snoring drove to work without feeling sleepy and tired, and made it through the whole day!
I was so thankful I had found the solution and finally felt like doing things again. Yes, I am scheduled for the after-implant sleep study to see how I am doing but I’m telling you it has been a God-send for me.
If you are feeling discomfort of the tongue consult with your doctor to adjust it for a longer time period for falling asleep because once I am asleep I do not feel anything.
It is a slow process with lots of appointments and adjustments but could save your life or the life of others is you are falling asleep behind the wheel.
If I had to I would do it all over again.
