Palmers Even Tone Fade Cream: Does it Work?

Q: My skin tone is uneven. Some spots are lighter and darker than others. I feel that my complexion makes me look worn out and older than what I really am. I’m looking for a product that can even out my complexion but also keep it moisturized. I pretty much want to smooth out my skin and knock off a few years on my appearance so I can finally look and feel my age. A friend of mine told me about Palmers Even Tone Fade Cream. Are there any disadvantages or harmful side effects? Is this made in the states and easily available?
Expert Answer
Palmers Even Tone Fade Cream

Palmers Even Tone Fade Cream claims to remove* dark spots and skin discolorations returning the skin to an even natural tone. The product contains alpha, hydroxyl and sunscreen. The combination of the three helps soften the skin texture and gets rid of any rough flaky patches on the skin which usually causes the darker areas. This product is both made and sold in the USA and available online through various retailers and the company website. A thin layer of cream is applied to the desired area in the morning and at night. After a few weeks of the recommended usage, you should be able to notice a difference in the appearance of your skin, however if there is no improvement after 90 days, discontinue use.

Warning: This product is for external use only. When using this product keep away from the eye area. Palmers Even Tone Fade Cream is not intended for children under 12 years old unless recommended by a physician. A mild skin irritation is possible when using this product but if irritation persists after a period of time, discontinue use and consult your doctor. Active ingredients include Octisalate3.0% and Hydroquinone2.0% which is known for its possible harmful side effects. If you are currently on any other medications or treatments check with your physician before using this product.

If you do shop for a skin brightening product in a health store, pharmacy or on the Internet, you’ll often find hundreds of different brands containing a confusing array of ingredients. You may be tempted to experiment with different products until you find one that works. But this approach may be expensive. More importantly, not all products contain the quality and quantity of necessary ingredients to positively promote long-term improvements on the appearance of hyperpigmentation and an overall healthy, even and radiant complexion. That’s why you’ll need to do a little bit of research to find the best, most potent brand for your needs.
