33 Weeks Pregnant: What You Must Know

At the 33rd week of pregnancy, there are many changes that occur in both the mother and the baby. These fetal and maternal changes are detailed below along with some tips for the expecting mother.

Did you know that the bones in a fetus’ skull are designed to move and overlap in order to make it easier for the baby’s head to fit through the birth canal? These bones don’t begin to fuse until after the baby is born.

What Happen to the Baby?

The baby is starting to look more human and less alien. His bones are starting to harden to prepare for life outside of the weightless womb. The baby is beginning to move much more at the 33rd week of pregnancy, and most babies will start to shift, so their head is down toward the birth canal. The 33rd week of pregnancy is the time where the baby is really preparing for birth.

What Happens to the Mother?

The expectant mother is likely feeling a lot more uncomfortable. Walking has become a bit more difficult as the belly expands. She is more likely to waddle when taking steps. Doing even the most basic of tasks has become a challenge including sleeping or even sitting. Many women also feel a lot more achy and numb in their hands, wrists, fingers, legs, feet, and toes. This is because the tissue that makes up those parts of the body will retain fluid, and the mother’s body retains a lot of fluid during pregnancy.


Tips for Expectant Mothers at 33th Week of Pregnancy

  • Expect a lot of movement from the baby during this time. Do not be concerned about the baby’s movement unless the movement has fallen below the baby’s average. Take time to count kicks.
  • If you have been staying active from the beginning of your pregnancy, continue to do so even now. You will want to check with your doctor as far as healthy levels of exercise and what exercises would be best. Swimming is a great activity for expectant mothers because it can take some of the weight off without putting stress on the body.
  • Most mothers start lactating around this time. If you started lactating earlier, you’re perfectly fine. Some mothers will even begin lactating later. Don’t start pumping without checking with your doctor first.
  • If you are suffering from heartburn and indigestion, consider a change in diet. Avoid rich fatty, and spicy foods. Avoid chocolate, citrus, and coffee too. Have small meals, about six per day, and take your time. Don’t rush, and don’t lie down for at least two to three hours after eating.
  • Check with your doctor regarding your vitamin levels. If your vitamin K levels are low, start taking in vitamin K-rich foods. Green leafy vegetables, cantaloupe, cauliflower, and green beans are great food selections to start.

At this point in pregnancy, some women can feel bloated and ugly. However, pregnancy is one of the most beautiful times of a woman’s life, and she should accentuate that. Avoid going overboard with outfits and accessories. Keep it simple to make it easier to get on and off. Focus on the positives like that healthy hair and glowing complexion. Wear a shirt that shows off the new voluptuousness of the pregnant body.

When pregnant, there are certain things to avoid in beauty treatments. Most doctors advice against coloring hair because of the chemicals applied to the hair and breathed in during the process. Furthermore, avoid at-home whitening kits or any kind of teeth whitening procedure as well because the chemicals can be dangerous to the baby. Avoid retinol products. Be sure to notify massage therapists of your pregnancy to avoid getting hurt. Also, this is not the best time for sunbathing as pregnancy hormones make a woman more sun-sensitive. If you do need to go out in the sun, use a sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. And more importantly, stay hydrated!
