Neck Wrinkle Treatments: Plastic Surgery, Neck Line Fillers and More

As you age, you are likely to notice that the contour of your neck will become much less attractive. You may notice pouches of fat under your chin, which can create the look of a double chin and eventually create the skin on the neck to be less taught.

In many cases, this is referred to as a “turkey neck” since your neck will appear like what is found in an actual turkey’s neck. However, no matter what type of neck wrinkles you may have there are steps that you can take to reduce and in some cases eliminate them altogether.

Massage

A massage can provide significant results for a wrinkled neck because it will increase the blood flow beneath the skin. When you massage your neck you will want to use a gentle lotion and us a gentle, but firm touch. You should massage the skin on the neck for a minimum of 15 minutes at least once a week.

While this can be a very slow process, it can help to prevent more wrinkles from forming by keeping the blood circulating and your neck skin taunt.

Exercise

Exercise

When you work to perform facial exercises on your neck muscles it can help them to be much firmer and toned, which will help to tighten the skin that is on your neck. For best results, it is advised that you exercise your neck muscles at least every other day.

You can use your thumbs with the sides of your index fingers in order to pinch flesh on each side of your windpipe. Pull the flesh outward from your neck while tipping your head in the back at the same time and opening your mouth a bit, while tensing your jaw.

When you do the exercise properly, you will feel the muscle in your neck moving under your fingers. Repeat this 20 times, with each contraction being a bit more intense.

Plastic Surgery

A plastic surgeon can perform a neck lift on any patient that wishes to dramatically improve the appearance of any wrinkles that are on your neck. When this procedure is done, the surgeon will make two incisions behind or beneath your ears to stretch the skin, and remove the excess.

In most cases, this surgery will be performed under general anesthesia and you will be an outpatient. If you have an extreme amount of neck wrinkles, your surgeon may also decide to alter the platysma muscle or perform neck liposuction if there are fat deposits beneath your chin.

Fillers to Remove Neck Lines

Dermal filler can be used to diminish the appearance of horizontal lines on your neck. This procedure is typically used for deeper creases. While Botox is able to be used for vertical lines that are the result of thickening muscles, Botox will not effectively eliminate the horizontal lines that are present.

Medical Intervention

Medical Intervention

If you witness significant neck wrinkles you may wish to have medical intervention to reduce the appearance of the lines that are present. Some of the most popular medical interventions for neck wrinkles include:

  • Topical Retinoid: These are derived from A vitamins and can be applied to reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles
  • Dermabrasion: This is a procedure that will sand down the surface of your skin with a rotation brush, allowing a new layer of skin to grow in its place
  • Microdermabrasion: Similar to dermabrasion, yet less skin is removed
  • Chemical Peel: This will be applied by a doctor and essentially burn away the outer layer of your skin
  • Botox: When Botox is injected into the wrinkles it will cause the muscles to contract and tighten the skin

Laser Therapies

Laser Therapies

A laser can be used to reduce the horizontal lines that are present on your neck by increasing the production of collagen and also tightening your skin.

Laser treatment is only appropriate for patients that have a substantial amount of skin elasticity. In most cases, after a person reaches the age of 60 laser treatments for neck wrinkles is completely ineffective.

Keeping the Mind Healthy

Stress can increase the wrinkles that are on your neck. This means that your neck wrinkles will be enhanced when you stress or have continual problems in your life.

Take time to meditate or participate in other relaxing activities to ensure that your mind stays healthy and that your wrinkles will be reduced and in some cases eliminated altogether.

While there are many treatments available for neck wrinkles, prevention is still the best way to eliminate the chances of these unwanted lines on your neck.

Take time to participate in proper neck care, such as cleansing the neck and using creams on the skin that will help to increase the elasticity of the skin.
