Lips are a very important part of the sensuality of a woman. When we look at our facial skin, we often feel that our lip skin is something different than the rest of the body skin. The top layer of our skin is called the epidermis. It is protected by a covering known as stratum corneum. The layer under the epidermis is known as dermis. Our lip skin also has all the three of these layers however the protective layer known as the stratum corneum of the lips is much thinner as compared to other parts of the skin.
Another fact that makes our lip skin different is the absence of sebaceous glands which perform the task of supplying moisture to our skin. Absence of these glands makes our lips dry and chapped. Furthermore, the hair follicles that cover almost all parts of our body are also absent from our lips, palms and the lower part of our feet. You must have noticed that these three areas never show hair growth. Melanin, which is a pigment present in our skin, is also not there in our lip skin. This pigment provides* self defense to our body against the ultra violet rays of the sun. Its absence makes our lips all the more vulnerable to damage caused by the elements.

We don’t provide the required care to our lips, we keep on licking and wetting them with saliva, we breathe from mouth, we smoke and so on. Honey for Moisturizing Lips
Honey is a great natural moisturizing agent for our skin. In addition to this, it is also a very powerful anti bacterial agent. Using honey over chapped lips will show you instant recovery from cracks. The best part is that it is gentle and you can use it directly on the skin. Just take a few drops of pure honey on your finger and rub it gently over your lips. This can be done several times a day. You can also prepare a mixture of honey and glycerin and apply it on lips before going to bed.
Brown Sugar for Exfoliating Lips
You must have heard about exfoliating the skin which is the process of removing* the dead cells from the epidermis or the top layer of the skin. This removes* the rough skin and makes it smoother. Exfoliation is essential to keep your skin healthy, free from infected ingrown hair and attractive. We often use different kinds of scrubs to remove* the dead cells from our facial skin but we often forget about our lips as they generally appear healthy. However, exfoliating the lips is as important as scrubbing the facial skin and brown sugar is one of the best home remedies for the same.
How to Exfoliate with Brown Sugar?
To do this, take a teaspoon of brown sugar and add a few drops of honey to it. Mix it well to make a smooth paste and apply it to your lips. After a few minutes, rub it gently so that the dead skin comes off. After sometime, wash your lips with lukewarm water and apply some honey to keep them moist. For better* results, you can put a few drops of olive oil in the exfoliating mixture.
Using chemical based cosmetic products may sometimes prove to be harmful but while using these home remedies, you don’t have to worry about anything. These will never produce* any side effects on your skin unless you are allergic to any of these edibles. Other things used for lip care that are readily available in your kitchen are coconut oil, milk cream, cucumber, castor oil, rose petals and baking soda.
