Overview of Hair Food’s Plant Based Shampoo

Hair Food is an all-natural-based hair brand that believes that what you put on your hair is just as vital as what you put into your system. Their product focuses on a healthier plant based hair shampoo made from all-natural ingredients. This product claims to be a much better option than other common products with non-natural ingredients.
Are the ingredients in this product truly all-natural and does it give better results when used on the hair than its counterparts? Are there any hidden ingredients that are not plant based that could cause harm to your hair and where can you get this product in your location? In the rest of this post, we will answer all of these questions and more as we look deeper into the formulation of Hair food and its potential benefits and side effects.

What is Hair Food?

Hair Food is a brand that focuses on formulating natural hair care products to nourish your hair from the inside out, with formulas inspired by simple, hand-crafted nutritious recipes. The goal is to create products that are full of organic, nutrient-dense ingredients that truly feed and strengthen your hair strands, giving it the full health and shine that it deserves. Hair Food claims all products are vegan formulated, avoiding the unnecessary chemicals and additives found in conventional hair care like sulfates, parabens, dyes, and mineral oils. Instead, they focus on using wholesome, food-grade ingredients that have a positive impact on hair health and vitality. Think superfoods like coconut oil, avocado oil, plant botanicals, and vitamin-rich extracts.
By basing their formulas on the actual nutrients your hair needs to thrive, Hair Food plant based shampoo aims to deliver more than just surface-level benefits. In essence, Hair Food takes a whole-foods approach to hair care, seeking to truly nourish hair the way nature intended through simple, clean formulas packed with vitamins, proteins, and fatty acids – all the “food” your hair needs to return to a balanced, healthy state.

Hair Food Plant Based Shampoo Ingredients: Are They Safe or Harmful?

We deeply researched the key ingredients used in the formulation of Hair Food products and have put together an in-depth review of each of these ingredients and what they mean for you.

Coconut fruit extract:

Coconut oil is a deeply hydrating substance that can give hair moisture and prevent dryness. It’s also a powerful antioxidant that can repair hair damage
A study in the Journal of Cosmetic Science found numerous beneficial effects of coconut oil on the hair, including hydrating and eliminating dryness, repairing damage, and deep penetration. However, not enough studies have gone into the effectiveness of using the extract from the fruit itself and whether or not it will give the same effects and benefits. It is unclear as to why the brand opted for the extract rather than the oil.

Argan Oil:

Argan oil is also known as Moroccan oil since it hails from the beautiful place of Morocco. According to our finding in our review of Argan oil, it comes from the argan tree. It contains both vitamin E and antioxidants, which are just all-around well known for what they can do for our skin. The vitamin E provides the moisture while the antioxidants fight free radicals that are just holding our lashes down. Another component worth mentioning is the fatty acids which are great for moisture retention

Glycerin:

It is beneficial to damaged hair and may condition sufficiently to prevent breaking. Because hair is not falling off at the ends, it appears to grow faster. A 2017 study found that glycerin can improve skin barrier function and keep skin moisturized for up to 24 hours. Glycerin can also be used to condition a dry scalp. [1]

Avocado:

According tour review on avocado and honey faceask, avocado is known as one of the healthiest foods in the world. Other than dietary benefits, you can avail enormous benefits when using avocado as a face and skin care product. Avocado contains vitamins, minerals and healthy fatty acids to help us strengthen our skin, attacks zits and prevents inflammation. [2]

Tea Tree Oil:

Tea tree oil is another essential oil commonly used in the formulation of cosmetic products. It is believed to contain potent antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal properties beneficial to skin and hair health. As we documented in our review of Keeva Organics, tea tree oil it may be effective for scalp health.
Research in the International Journal of Dermatology investigated the effects of Tea Tree Oil on skin and hair health. Results show that it is a potent ingredient that plays the role of antimicrobial activity against bacteria, chemicals, and fungi that affect the skin.[3]

Hair Food Plant Based Shampoo Formula

The Hair Food product combines an active mix of glycerin, fragrance, panthenol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, corn silk extract, coconut fruit extract, and some other inactive ingredients that play a role in better hair health and growth. What the Hair Food Plant Based Shampoo Users are Saying?

Miranda Dodge, one of the top reviewers on Amazon, said,

Ok, I write reviews once in a while…but never immediately after using. That said, I’m super happy and impressed…and that ain’t easy to do. Lol. Let me start by saying I’m 53, and blessed to still have long thick hair. However, I’m 53… every day brings new changes.
My grey is coming in, and while I’m happy to embrace the cool highlights… it’s course and wirey. Add to this an obnoxious wave that has been growing in, and the dry heat of Arizona. My soft beautiful hair has been slipping into the abyss, of course, dry and frizzy. ?Since I don’t got it in me to go down without a fight, I’ve been on a mission to find the perfect shampoo and conditioner for a while.
Forget purple shampoo (overrated)… this is the best my hair has felt in years! The fragrance is wonderful (tea tree and lavender)… my hair isn’t weighted down at all…just clean, fresh, silky hair without the need for other products. ?? As soon as I have seen the name “hair food” I was intrigued enough to read some reviews and order. This is simply my contribution back to all of you…it feels like it is legitimately feeding my hair all that is good, and none of the bad. The cost is worth it for me! For the record, I used both the shampoo and conditioner.

However, an anonymous reviewer on Amazon shared their own conflicting experience

I’ve been purchasing this conditioner for the past few years and it’s been amazing. I’ve even gotten a few others to switch to Hair Food shampoo/conditioner. They have to have changed the formula because it literally smells like you’re washing your hair with sunscreen. These new bottles lists “Citrus Scent” as part of the fragrance, which you can even see in the product pictures. Who wants a citrus scent in a lavender and tea tree conditioner?
I’m guessing this is a new fragrance they’re using because I can’t find “Citrus Scent” anywhere on the old bottles. The conditioner still works well, but the smell is so horrendous that I can’t use it anymore. I seriously just think about sunscreen the instant I smell it. Why change what was such a good product? Thoroughly disappointed. If the formula wasn’t changed, then my mind will be blown because it smells so bad and I have to have received a bad lot. I’m not going to purchase another bottle to test it out.

Hair Food shampoos contain added fragrance and at least one synthetic preservative. Fragrances can potentially release chemicals that pose health risks with long-term use, though reactions vary by individual. Amazon is likely the most affordable place to purchase Hair Food shampoos. Soft, shiny, and healthy
I got Hair Food Coconut and Açaí for my daughter and myself after a recommendation from a friend. I’m so glad I did. Have you ever colored your hair, used the conditioner that came with it, and afterwards felt that your hair was healthier than before you colored it? Did you wish someone would create a formula that could replicate that feeling of healthy hair after coloring, something you could use all the time? Well, that’s exactly how Hair Food makes my hair feel. I’ve tried all sorts of different shampoos and conditioners (Olaplex, Meaningful Beauty, to name a couple of popular ones), and none of them made my hair feel as soft and healthy as Hair Food does, plain and simple. It’s the first shampoo and conditioner I’ve ever been excited about, and it’s been sold out for a few weeks now. However, I’ve found that I have to use the combination of both the shampoo and conditioner. If I just use the conditioner, I don’t get the same results. The same goes for just using the shampoo. It’s the same with my daughter’s hair, but she’s 11, so sometimes she doesn’t rinse well enough, and her hair ends up looking weighed down. Once I remind her to rinse better next time, her hair has the same great results.

I am not sure about Hair Food
I have used Hair Food’s oil, conditioner and shampoo. Other products are quite good but this shampoo was quite expensive, and have not seen any positive changes in my hair’s texture or overall health.
