It seems that everybody is talking about reinventing their lives these days. Between our anxious, sick bodies and our unfulfilling careers and relationships, it’s no wonder a better life is on our minds. Personal transformation is on our radar. A part of us knows there is a more sustainable, authentic and healthier way to live, but we aren’t sure where to start and change feels overwhelming. Yet, it doesn’t have to be this way and I invite you to consider that reinventing your life and your health may be simpler than you think.
Health is True Wealth
If you’re looking to reinvent your life, I’d suggest you start with your health. You’ve probably heard that “health is wealth” and I couldn’t agree more. No matter how much financial wealth you have, if you’re unwell, then you can’t enjoy it. Yet, if your body is in the balance and healthy you’ll feel vibrant and youthful, regardless of your bank account. Plus, as your body (inside and out) starts to feel better, your entire life will be affected in a positive way. To help you on your journey toward reinvention, here are 4 things your Doctor may never have told you about improving your health:
How To Reinvent Your Health: 4 Things Your Doctor Never Told You
1. Primary Food (Career, Spirituality, Relationships, Exercise) Is Often More Important Than Secondary Food (What You Eat).
Primary Food, is defined by The Institute for Integrative Nutrition(IIN) (where I received my health coaching certification), as “more than what is on your plate. Healthy relationships, regular physical activity, a fulfilling career and a spiritual practice can fill your soul and satisfy your hunger for life. When primary food is balanced and satiating, your life feeds you, making what you eat secondary.”
Think about this for a moment. Reflect back on a time when you were in love and everything felt exciting and vibrant. Colors seemed brighter and intimacy was wonderful. You could spend the entire day together and never think about eating. Your lover’s touch and attention filled you with positive energy in a way that food could not. Remember a time when you were a child playing in your backyard and your Mother called you inside to eat dinner. You didn’t want to go in because you were having so much fun. You didn’t even feel hungry as the high energy of play time was feeding you enough.
IIN goes on to explain this experience as “sometimes we are fed not by food but by the energy in our lives. These moments and feelings demonstrate that everything is food” and I couldn’t agree more. Though food and nutrition are really important, we have to look at all areas of our lives as what “feeds us” and creates a healthy, balanced and sustainable life.
2. Drinking Fresh Celery Juice Daily Can Transform Your Gut Health.
Holistic wellness starts with a healthy gut. Because you are what you digest and not what you eat, gut health, or digestive health, is a hot topic right now. This is for a good reason as your gut houses over 80% of your immune system, according to Mercola.com.
For gut health, fresh celery juice is one of the most healing juices you can drink. According to The Medical Medium Blog, “Just 16 oz. of fresh celery juice every morning on an empty stomach can transform your health and digestion in as little as one week.” Their blog goes on to say “Celery juice also has significant anti-inflammatory properties making it highly beneficial for those who suffer from autoimmune conditions such as Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Migraines, Vertigo, IBS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriasis, Eczema, Acne, Lupus, Guillain-Barre, Sarcoidosis, Raynaud’s, Meniere’s, GERD, Bursitis, Restless Leg Syndrome, and Gout.”
Now, that’s a bold statement and I wouldn’t have believed it just from reading about it. After drinking fresh celery juice each morning on an empty stomach for 5 days, I saw a big difference in how I felt, and many of my symptoms lessened or were completely gone. Now I’m hooked and this daily celery juice ritual is a key part of my wellness plan.
3. A Daily Smoothie Can Help Balance Your Blood Sugar
*All individuals are unique. Your results can and will vary.
An important component of health is maintaining blood sugar balance. Yet, in our modern world it can be difficult to eat as much and as often as our body needs, so we don’t crash. I recommend smoothies as a food option to bridge this gap in our busy lives. By blending lots of protein, fiber and other nutrients you support your body to feel full and balanced for several hours.
Smoothies can be a great source of protein, super foods, fats and fiber, but not all smoothie recipes are the same. Going to your local smoothie shop may not be healthy- you have to look at what’s inside. This is why I recommend making your smoothies at home. You can control the ingredients and you know that you’re getting a high-quality, low- glycemic (low sugar) drink filled with organic, whole fruits, vegetables and greens. Plus, smoothies are easily digested as the blender has done the work for your body. If you have any issues with your digestion, this is a huge perk.
I make my daily smoothie (16 oz at least, usually) each day around mid-morning and I’m often not hungry again until late afternoon. I thrive on having one meal per day in smoothie form. Not only does it aid my digestion, but the smoothies are like a treat and save me time as no cooking is involved.
4. There Are 4 Crucial Supplements Everyone Should Take
The world we call home nowadays has supplement lacking soil (consequently supplement insufficient harvests), and our Western eating routine is loaded with calorie-thick and supplement poor prepared nourishments, GMOs, and pesticides. We are persistently presented to poisons in our nourishment, water, air and even individual care and cleaning items. As though that weren’t sufficient, our anxiety levels have soar and many individuals are managing gut awkward nature, for example, Candida and SIBO, which impede appropriate supplement ingestion.
This blend of a decrease in supplement thick nourishment and expansion in stress, poisons and gut lopsided characteristics is the reason we can at no time in the future get the majority of the vitamins and minerals we require from our eating regimen alone. It’s what I allude to as “the ideal tempest” and why I trust everybody ought to utilize a couple of basic supplements to keep up ideal levels of supplements. I recommend taking the following daily:
Supplements are an unregulated industry and not all products are created equal. Choose supplements that are pharmaceutical grade, meaning they are a higher quality and often higher dosages than over the counter. Always make sure to purchase supplements that meet Good Manufacturing Process (GMP) standards. The GMP seal means that the manufacturer has evaluated the purity, quality, strength, and composition of the supplement, that the supplement is safe to take, and that it’s exactly what the manufacturer says it is.
5. Your Mental And Emotional Health Is Just As Important As Your Nutrition
When I first started transforming my health and my life, I thought that all I had to do was eat well and exercise and all of my symptoms would go away. Little did I know that my entire lifestyle, mental mindset and emotional landscape would need to shift in order to be well. The food and exercise really did help, yet, as a highly-sensitive person with a history of anxiety and panic attacks, I learned that I can eat all of the organic kale in the world or drink green juice every day and, yet if I’m constantly filling my mind with negativity and fear, I will remain sick and in pain. So began my journey to manage stress and anxiety naturally and completely reinvent my life.
Coaching Can Help
As a health coach and life reinvention expert, I work with professionals, moms, and business owners who are at a turning point in their life and ready to grow, learn and evolve like never before. I call my clients “Reinvention Warriors” and in our coaching together we often start with improving the quality of their health and their diet. Yet, as savvy as my clients are, I’m often surprised by the outdated health and nutrition knowledge they’ve heard, read and been told as they’ve tried to find wellness.
I help my clients understand that days are gone of counting calories, eating low-fat diet foods or forcing yourself to exercise hours a day to lose weight. Sure some of these things may work for you in the short-term, but it’s important to remember that what you eat is only part of the equation. Reinventing your health means finding wellness (and thus balance) in all areas of your life and understanding that you are a bio-individual who must determine what foods and nutrition advice are right for your own unique body. If you are able to enhance your primary foods, improve your gut health, balance your blood sugar, optimize your nutrition with crucial supplements, elevate your emotional landscape and shift your mental mindset, then you’ll be well on your way to reinventing your health for the better.
