While frozen samples did exist, the slow-freezing methods used on specimens didn’t provide quality results and the pregnancy rates were abysmal.

Not only would oocytes and embryos begin to deteriorate after being frozen, but they often didn’t survive the thawing process.

With the implementation of an improved flash-freezing technique known as vitrification, problems with oocyte and embryo freezing and storage were solved.

With vitrification, eggs and embryos are exposed to advanced cryoprotectants before undergoing the flash-freezing technique. This ensures stored specimens 1) remain in the exact condition they were in upon collection and 2) prevents ice crystal formation and deterioration. Vitrified collections are also more likely to survive the thawing process.

Minimally Invasive Cervical Surgery Options

Suppose your doctor discovers precancerous cells in your cervix, or you’re experiencing unusual bleeding. In these cases, there’s a chance your healthcare provider might suggest some type of cervical surgery to solve the problem.

Previously, these types of surgeries involved incisions and could be relatively invasive. Today, many of these same issues are more easily treated using cryogenic technology.

Your physician will insert a long, slim surgical instrument known as a cryoprobe into your cervix to perform the procedures. This device exposes your inner cervical lining to freezing temperatures, thereby correcting or eliminating the problem area.

Compared to previous surgical techniques, cryotherapy cervical options are less expensive, heal faster, and carry fewer risks or complications.

Better Access to Medicinal Plants

In today’s medical climate, many doctors are beginning to use a combination of Eastern and Western medical techniques to treat their patients. Infertility problems are no different. Unfortunately, some of the medicinal plants, seeds, and tissues required to perform these treatments aren’t always easy to come by.

Thanks to cryogenic technology, these specimens can now be collected and stored so they’re easily accessible when needed.
