A painful feeling at the back of the throat or swollen tonsils is often experienced when having soar throat. In most cases, this is associated as a symptom to other sickness such as influenza and colds that are basically viral. Other identified reasons of experiencing sore throat is when there is an irritation in the throat after an excessive use of voice, having an accurate pharyngitis, diphtheria or other conditions that result to the inflation of the throat. Even an acid reflux disease can be a reason in acquiring sore throat.

Sore Throats

One approach that is used to assess the seriousness level of the acquired sore throat is done through a scoring system. A study conducted by Doctor Paul Rosenberg and his team from different medical groups in Toronto reviewed the effectivity of a sore throat score approach. The team has come up to a result that such approach is also effective in providing the proper medication for patients. In fact, the approach has reduced* the chance of prescribing antibiotics to those who are actually culture negative or bacterial infection free. In this way, the probability of dealing with the unwanted side effects of antibiotics are also lessened.

So in cases where prescription of antibiotics such as penicillin and erythromycin is not necessary, there are still other much affordable ways to mend a swollen and painful throat. These remedies are guaranteed as natural, easy to prepare and just within your reach, at your very own kitchen in particular.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegarWhat science say: Believe it or not, apple cider vinegar will help in decreasing* acidity level and in turn kills bacteria which also thrives in an acidic environment. Moreover, this also contains a prebiotic inulin that increases* white blood and T-cells and resulting to a more active immune system.

How to do it: Gargling a mixture of apple cider vinegar and warm water, 1/4 cup each is the classic method. You can also try swallowing undiluted apple cider vinegar, from small to increasingly tolerable amount but make sure to drink plenty of water as well.

Salt Water

Salt WaterWhat science say: There are quite a number of studies conducted which showed that gargling a salt water solution reduces* throat swelling and drives the bacteria out. Salt is a very effective element in absorbing water and thus reduces* water concentration. On the other hand, one of the survival mechanism of bacteria is moisture which basically produced by water. Having these two facts combined, the growth of the bacteria, which causes infections in throat, is being prevented when a salt water solution takes part in the medication process.

How to do it: All you need to prepare are the following: glass filled with water, table salt and a stirrer. In order to achieve the surest result, make sure that the water you are using is warm, not too hot and not too cold. Add a tablespoon of salt in the water. Stir the solution to dissolve salt and then gargle it. It is as easy as that. Even if we often want to get rid of the sore throat right away, there is no need to overdo the salt water gargling procedure. Doing it twice a day will already give an effective result.

Garlic

GarlicWhat science say: Garlic’s allicin is the one key compound that is responsible for the cure*. It is tagged as a natural antibiotic, which is estimated to be 1/50th as powerful as penicillin. Garlic is a catalyst to the immune system cells which are responsible in fighting bacterial infections. More so, since it is natural, there is no way that it harms your body. Take note that the allicin compound in the garlic can only be extracted from a raw garlic since cooking the garlic will eventually convert allicin to other ineffective compounds. Allicin is still being preserved in a clove but the slicing or crushing phase it will then release the compound.

How to do it: The method is so simple. Peel off the skin, crush the garlic, then take it. Crushing it more in your teeth before you swallow is more effective. If you can’t bear swallowing a piece of sliced garlic, here is a more friendly way to do it. Put one or two whole garlic in the microwave for about 10 to 15 seconds only. Crush them and you can opt to eat it with a cracker. One dose of this medication daily is enough to heal sore throat.

Remembering these three things and how all the preparations are done. It will really give relief once you or any member of the family will experience the pain of having a sore throat. These are not just healthier but also economical. However, keep in mind also that persistent and extraordinarily bothersome sore throat might be a sign that you need to seek medical advice from your family physician.
