Many people want to know how dehydration affects cellulite. The easiest answer is to avoid being dehydrated. Over time, the human body has developed mechanisms to reduce its water requirement if necessary. These mechanisms can cause the skin to lose elasticity and become dried out. As the body seeks to find water elsewhere, it will wreak havoc on the skin and bloodstream.

What Exactly is Dehydration?


Simply put, dehydration is when the body is not receiving enough water. This may be caused by a lowered intake of water or an increased requirement. If someone is in the sun or has increased their workouts, they will need more water each day. When they do not get this water, their body may become dehydrated. Unfortunately, many people can become dehydrated from another source. Many fad diets limit the amount of food and liquids consumed each day. If someone does not receive enough water, their body will suffer.
The immediate effects of dehydration are innocuous. Often, the person will feel hungrier before they feel thirsty. As dehydration continues, their lips may become cracked and their skin will start to dry out. Since the blood stream needs water to flow, dehydration can affect the body’s circulatory system and their blood pressure. Without adequate water, the body is unable to carry out normal processes like removing fat, absorbing vitamins or hydrating the skin. If this process is not reversed, severe cases of dehydration can actually be fatal. The body needs water to run and withholding water will harm it greatly.

How Does Dehydration Cause Cellulite?

Dehydration does not directly cause cellulite, but this myth contains some truth. Once the body is dehydrated, certain things will occur that can increase cellulite. Although dehydration is not the direct cause, it creates a situation where cellulite is likely.
When someone becomes dehydrated, they normally feel hungry before they feel thirsty. This means that they end up eating more food than they need to. If they remain dehydrated, this can lead to weight gain and higher amounts of fat in the body. To make it worse, dehydration can directly impede the body’s ability to use and remove fat cells. Water is needed in the cells and the blood stream for everything to operate smoothly. If the circulatory system is not at its optimal level, it will be unable to remove and dissolve fat cells. For the individual, this means that they cannot use or get rid of their fat.
To make this situation worse, cellulite often occurs when the skin is broken and internal tissues are weak. It is deposited beneath the skin in clusters that form bunches. If the connective tissue is damaged, it will be easier for cellulite to form and harder to get rid of it.

Ways to Overcome Dehydration

The easiest way to get over dehydration is to drink water. Individuals can try drinking a glass of water before and after each meal. By doing this, they can easily remember to get an adequate amount of water intake each day. More importantly, people have to adjust for new situations. If they spent the day at the beach or on an arduous hike, their body is going to need a lot more water. When this happens, they must consumer more fluids to prevent their body from becoming dehydrated.
Some drinks can actually lower the body’s water levels. Diuretics like coffee, tea and alcohol actually take away hydration from the body. If someone consumes a lot of coffee each day, they have to adjust for it by drinking more fluid. Limiting diuretics can also help to alleviate this issue.
