Do you feel like you’re constantly battling with your acne? From the hormonal teenage years through adulthood, maintaining smooth skin that is free of acne, post-acne spots, premature signs of aging, and/or other skin conditions on your face and body can be exhausting—and costly.
As a mother of four children, I faced problems in finding an effective solution to manage their recurring bouts of eczema as well. A natural, simple, and targeted approach is how I handled this dilemma, thanks to the most nutrient-dense and inexpensive solution that can be found in your local grocery store! Take a closer look at the best-kept secret in maintaining smooth, radiant skin.
Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (unrefined)
There’s no denying the incredible benefits of this nutrient-dense product that has been consumed in tropical regions for thousands of years. While coconut consumption offers numerous health benefits, besides being simply delicious, the application of the coconut oil on the body is equally impressive.
Before I began applying the oil to repair my skin and treat my kids’ skin conditions, I skeptically asked the same questions that I now often hear from others.
- How does it even work?
- Won’t it make my skin greasy and clog my pores?
- How do you use it?
- How often do you apply it?
Ready to Repair
Pure coconut oil is comprised of about 50% Lauric Acid, which is a medium-chain fatty acid. When this acid is absorbed by the skin, it is then converted into monolaurin, which offers antiviral, antimicrobial, antiprotozoal and antifungal properties.
Whether you choose to ingest, apply, or even gargle/rinse with this natural remedy, coconut oil is known to kill harmful microorganisms deep within the pores. Whether you consume or apply coconut oil, the benefits are far-reaching.
Did You Know?
- The only other source of natural nutrition that offers a comparative concentration of lauric acid… is breast milk!
Effects on Pores
Beyond nutrition, coconut oil serves as an excellent moisturizer and deep cleanser that helps to revitalize and repair the skin. Long-term application will serve to help:
- Moisturize, repair, and refresh flaky, dry skin
- Reduce the onset of premature aging
- Treat other skin issues, such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, etc.
The idea of applying coconut oil onto my face seemed strange at first, not only because I was cooking with it, but also because I was worried that the oil would leave my face feeling greasy and further clog my pores—and, thankfully, my concerns quickly faded after the first application.
Several times per week, after washing/drying my face in the evening, I apply a small amount of the oil all over my face, hands, and feet that tend to be dry. I then use a towel to lightly dab the extra oil on the surface. In the morning, I am completely amazed at the noticeable difference.
Emerging acne reduces or disappears, previous acne spots lighten faster, my skin appears more vibrant and moisturized, and facial skin seems a bit tighter. Over time, I was in sheer disbelief at how deep wrinkles on my forehead and around my eyes began to fade and disappear as well.
The oil’s cell regenerative properties really hold true. I even apply the oil on my children’s eczema spots, scrapes, and cuts due to its strong antioxidant properties. The best part is that you can apply the oil as often as you like, as its medicinal properties are completely natural and safe for all ages.
The other crucial tactic to maintaining smooth skin is to banish your fingers from your face! During a bored, stressed, or self-critical moment, it’s too easy to fall back into bad habits of picking those little “bumps” in hopes of making them disappear. What you actually end up doing is creating a subcutaneous infection, spreading the “gunk,” and creating a mini-wound on your face that now has to start a healing process. Stay away from your face and stop picking, even if you need to cut your nails or put post-its on the mirror. Once you leave your face alone and keep it clean, the problem areas will be a thing of the past.
Instead, step away and simply apply the oil to clean out that clogged pore. The less you touch your skin, the cleaner it will remain with fewer opportunities to spread bacteria.
Hydrate & Feel Great
While selecting a great cleanser is crucial for the health of your skin, so is your hydration! Drinking plenty of water throughout the day not only cleanses and detoxifies your system, but also serves to hydrate and refresh your skin.
You should feel vibrant from the inside out, so treat your body and skin well by drinking plenty of pure water throughout the day. Believe me, you will notice the effects on your skin. Start by drinking eight to 10 eight-ounce servings, throughout the day (not all at once).
From radiant, glowing skin, less acne spots, greater moisture, and improved elasticity, your skin will thank you for it—and you’ll feel better too.
Rest & Relief
I never thought that I would find the day where I could confidently stop wearing make-up and “hide” under a thick layer of foundation. This really turned my skin around, and I have never been more proud of the journey.
Maintaining healthy and smooth skin is so simple and inexpensive, but it starts with you.
